I suspect it's been said before, but just returned from an excellent stay at this hotel - friendly helpful staff, very clean (for example bedlinen changed every night), and a perfect location - within minutes of all key sights and the tram stop (yet a quiet side street). Would highly recommend it. It's also easy to walk to a good choice of restaurants (particularly liked Balikci Sabahattin and cheaper Buhara - refer Lonely Planet), and over in Beyoglu we were not disappointed by the much-vaunted Mikla. A fabulous city - our first visit - and a great hotel to be based at.

It was a bit daunting choosing a hotel without breaking the bank, we chose the Sultanahmet, as we wanted something with personality, but above all, affordable. So, we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. We were pleasantly suprised. I had e-mailed the hotel inquiring as to airport pick up, their reponse was immediate and very informative giving us several options. We chose the have them meet us at the airport. The driver was lovely, giving us a quick description of all of the sights we saw along the way. The sampling of Turkish delight was a nice touch. Our room was small, but extremely comfortable and immaculate. The front desk staff very helpful with restaurant recommendations, bookings and sight-seeing information. I don't think there is a language that they don't speak. There is a bar in the reception area and the bartender was superb! Every afternoon when we came back in from our outings he would greet my husband with a beer and snacks and me with a fresh squeezed lemonade, the best I have ever tasted. The guests at the hotel come from all points across the globe and we were fortunate to make quite a few new friends. The location couldn't be more perfect. The view from the balcony above the restaurant is a 360 degree panorama of the old city, the Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorous, not to metion Haga Sophia and the Blue Mosque. All of the major sights are within walking distance. The tram stop is at the end of the street and the ferries are about a 15 minute walk away. We only ate at the restaurant for breakfast (included). I must recommend The Cistern, which is across from Haga Sophia for dinner, an actual cistern that had been converted and 5 Kat in Beyoglu. Make sure you book for a table near the window for an amazing view of the Bosphorous at night. The hotel value was great, however, Istanbul is no longer the bargain it once was and we found it quite expensive. Also, in the bazaar district the touts are quite annoying, but if you take it with humor you should love Istanbul!

My husband and I were delighted at this hotel. Beautiful lobby, friendly helpful staff. We got a 3 night package including breakfasts and transfers. The breakfasts on the roof Terrace cafe were fabulous. The Turkish cheeses and fruit and tomatoes and olives were so good. It is walking distance to many attractions, and close to the Metro. Would definitly stay there again.
